You need the response to sound like it comes from a particular discipline or professional context.

How to write a role-based prompt

  1. Define the role — Give the AI a detailed profile of the expert you want it to impersonate.
  2. Let the AI confirm — Ask the model to confirm the role and explain why it’s relevant.
  3. Reference the expertise — State your question and refer back to the expert-role.

Example: NWO Vidi grant feedback

In this example we ask the AI to review an NWO Vidi proposal from the perspective of an experienced reviewer.

Step 1: Define the role
